Porter, Gary Glenn Friend, Father, Sibling, passed away on Friday, April 24th, 2020. For 55 years, he walked this earth and grew bonds with so many people. Gary will be survived by his indebted children, Isaiah and Lee (Aaliyah) Porter; his partner in crime(sister) Cyndi Porter and her dog, Morgan; his attentive brother, Bruce Porter, and his children, Ethan and Alec; his sister, Karen Porter; Maternal Uncle, Frederick Blanch, his daughter, Susan Ritchie, and her children, Simone and Marley; Paternal Uncle, Richard Porter, Aunt, Judy Porter, and their family Susan, Lynne, and Jim; Gary's ex-wife, Nicko Spehn, and her husband, Scott Spehn. He will also be survived by Jessica, Kim, and all the other close friends and coworkers he made connections with through his job at the Eden Prairie Great Clips along with Mellisa and the whole crew at the Eden Prairie Davanni's that he had spent an equal amount of time with. He was preceded in death by his parents, Priscilla (Blanch) and Roger Porter. Gary was born at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park on December 6th, 1964 as the youngest of his siblings. He was, as his sister would put it, the chillest dude. He kept his cool in a lot of situations and it was hard to see him get mad. Gary loved to laugh even at the small things like a fart. He would sleep through 80 percent of the movies he had paid for because the seats were just too darn comfy at the theaters. He loved taking walks through parks and forests. He tried his darndest to teach his kids how to ski. The man also had a 110 percent work ethic, even though he was late a lot of the time. Talk to anyone from his jobs and they'd say how much time and effort the man put into his work and the people he served. He was cutting hair and delivering pizza for almost two decades up until his hospital visits. At the end of the day, as the sun sinks into the horizon, just know that as he'd say, sometimes bluntly, "Sh*t happens and then you die." usually accompanied with a shrug. He left us due to a bacterial infection that his body just couldn't fight off and that's okay. Better luck next time, Bud. An open house celebration of Gary and his father's life will be at David Fong's Restaurant, 9329 Lyndale Ave S., Bloomington from noon to 2pm (call/text RSVP for lunch to Cyndi @ 612-384-9673). The original date is June 12th, but it is now unclear at this point due to the COVID-19 situation. Updates will be made as things clear up. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations for a park bench memorializing Gary and his parents. There are also plans to plant a tree with his ashes at one of the parks he and his children went on nature walks through. Washburn-McReavy.com Edina Chapel 952-920-3996
