Small Joseph Watson, of Jefferson City, formerly of Dixon, was born April 24, 1937, near Dixon, a son of William Claude and Emma Katy (Bacon) Watson, and departed this life at 12:22 p.m., Sunday, February 9, 2014, in Capital Region Hospital, Jefferson City. Small had attained the age of 76 years, 10 months, and 13 days.

Small was united in marriage at Steelville, to Deloris Faye Corey who preceded him in death in 2002. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his father in 1963; his mother in 1982; and two sisters, Alma Wyss in July of 1960 and Bertha Johnson on September 16, 2013.

He was a United States Army Veteran and had been awarded the Letter of Appreciation and was entitled to wear the Expert Rifle, and Good Conduct Metal. Small was a member of the Dixon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post Number 4238, Dixon. During his working career he had worked as a carpenter, a mechanic, and was owner and operator of the Wat-Park Sanitation Land Fill.

Those left to mourn the passing of Small include: One daughter, Mandy Hurst, Jefferson City; one step-son Monty Chadbourne, Dixon; one sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Charles Sherrell, Dixon; and three grandchildren, William Maddy-Watson; Winter Watson-Hurst; Conner Chadbourne; and other relatives and friends.

The way Small lived and interacted with others was the best tribute anyone could have for their life. Fond and precious memories will always be remembered in the hearts of his dear family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held for Small form 5 – 6 p.m., Tuesday, February 18, 2014, in the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funerals with a Memorial Service at 6 p.m. followed by Military Honors.
