Ruth Cowart Tyson, 93, of Tifton, died Monday, Aug. 26, 2013 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors with the Rev. Greg Love officiating. Interment will follow at Tift Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 9:45 until 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors. Eastside Baptist Church deacons will serves as active pallbearers and the Faithful Few Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers. Mrs. Tyson was born July 25, 1920 in Tattnall County to the late Lester G. and Mamie Hunt Cowart. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Tyson who died in 1990, two brothers, Junior Cowart and Jack Cowart, and one sister, Louise Spanatto She lived in Tift County since 1945. Mrs. Tyson attended ABAC and Norman Park College before graduating from Valdosta State College with a bachelor of arts degree. She retired from the Tift County Board of Education after 25 years of teaching and then substituted for 10 years. Mrs. Tyson was an active member of Eastside Baptist Church and the Faithful Few Sunday School Class. She was an avid Braves fan for many years and enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening and being outdoors. She is survived by her sons and a daughter-in-law, Billie Lee and Kay Tyson of Port St. Lucie, Fla., David Herman Tyson of Homosassa, Fla. and Danny Lee Tyson of Tifton; grandchildren, Kim Tyson Bundies, Becki Tyson Moore, Drew Tyson and Conner Tyson; great grandchildren, Reece Wilson, Ronnie Rogers Jr., and Jordan Wilson; sister, June Cowart of Reidsville; and several nieces and nephews.
