U.S. Navy Veteran, Spanish American War (1895-1899). During the war, he was a seaman on Commodore George Dewey's flagship of the seven-ship Asiatic Squadron, USFS Olympia, during the Battle of Manila Bay, on May 1, 1898.

He immigrated to the US in 1886, became a naturalized citizen about four years later and enlisted in the Navy at Mare Island Shipyard on July 9, 1895. He was attached to USS Olympia shortly before she stood out for Asia. He detached from Olympia on or about December 13, 1898, and to USS Raleigh, another cruiser in the Asiatic Squadron, along with scores of other sailors and marines, some of whose enlistments were expiring. Raleigh arrived at New York City, via the Suez Canal and Gibraltar on April 15, 1899 and Anderson discharged after that. He married his wife, Ida, also a Swedish immigrant in 1900.

He applied for his pension in 1920 from California. Per the 1920 Census, Peter and Ida were living in Oakland at 3237 Chestnut and he was working as a laborer for the City of Oakland. By 1930 he was retired and they were still living on Chestnut. Peter died in May 1936 at the age of 73 and was survived by Ida, who died in 1944. His obituary in the Oakland Tribune notes a private funeral service but no mention of a burial and he was likely cremated.
