Waynesville-Teresa James, age 42, passed away at Haywood Regional Medical Center on Friday, May 8, 2020.
Teresa was a doting mother and she loved all her children more than anything. She was a great friend and partner. She was the first in her family to graduate college and was an alumni of Mississippi State of Meridian, MS, and Western Carolina University of Cullowhee, NC, at which she was employed. Teresa grew up in a rough and impoverished area of Waynesville, called Hanging Dog, which natured her life values and goals. She worked as the Senior Assistant Director of the Financial Aid Department where she enjoyed helping and mentoring first generation undergraduates from low income families fulfill their dreams for attending college by helping those students figure out how to pay their financial obligations, or by helping to find scholarships for those in need. She really loved her job, her coworkers, and her staff. She enjoyed gardening, word-find puzzles, cooking, music, the outdoors, horror movies, flowers, butterflies and Victorian-era poetry.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Louise James and brother, Danny James.

Teresa is survived by her life partner, H. Duane Sharpe; children, Tyra Cheyenne Franklin, Brooks Roman Sharpe, & Noah Adrian Sharpe; brother, Ronnie James, all of Waynesville; sister, Sandra Hall of Burnsville; and her beloved fur babies, Maggie Mae and Jack. She looked at the dogs like children, and they became emotional therapy and protective supporters of her in her final months.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 16, 2020, at Smoky Mountain Chapel with Rev. Jerry Nelson officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12-2 PM. Burial will follow services at Greenhill Cemetery.
