James W. Engle, 95, of Terre Haute, Indiana, died on May 4, 2020. He was born on April 17, 1925, in Mattoon, Illinois, to Clyde Engle and Elsie Fail Engle. He attended Garfield High School and served honorably as a corporal in the Army during WWII. On June 8, 1946, he married the love of his life, Mary Ann Balu. She preceded him in death on December 23, 2010. He was also preceded in death by his aunt Carrie Engle Shaeffer who raised him, his parents, and a sister, Harriett Madsen. He is survived by a son, Matt Engle, daughter, Karen Stout, seven grandchildren,12 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jim was a supervisor for many years at the Wabash River Generating Station. He retired as a fossil-fuel field supervisor of Public Service Indiana (Duke Energy) in Plainfield. After retirement, he was a field representative for Black Beauty Coal Company in Evansville.

Jim was an active member of Maplewood Christian Church. He and Mary volunteered many years taking care of the church yard and flowers. More recently, he attended Eighth Avenue Baptist Church. While in North Fort Myers, Florida, they attended First Christian Church of Fort Myers.

Jim was a member of the William Penn Masonic Lodge and the Elks Lodge #86 where he enjoyed playing golf. He also enjoyed playing tennis and racquetball. He stayed active through aerobics, cycling, and cutting grass. Jim could fix just about anything and took great pleasure in helping others.

His wish to be cremated without services prior to the covid-19 pandemic will be honored. Private interment will be held at a later date with family at Roselawn Memorial Park.
