This is the story of Jerry Dale Greer. Jerry was a wonderful man that was loved so much, is missed, and will always be cherished. He was an amazing husband, dad, pawpaw, brother, uncle, son and friend that was loving, caring and was always concerned about the ones he loved. He was a member of Community Baptist Church. His love for God, and his Christian faith was a testimony to many throughout his life. His hope was that everyone would come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
Jerry’s story starts on March 17, 1956, born to Stewart and Mary Greer in Lenoir, NC. He was next to the youngest, and one of six siblings.
When Jerry was seventeen he met the love of his life and best friend, Rebecca (Becky) Pennell. They began dating, was later married and had one child, April Denise, a name that he chose.
He was known for his love of cars and football. Jerry would spend his spare time washing and waxing his vehicles, cruising in the Miata with Becky, and going to car shows. If you knew him, you knew how clean and particular he was about the things he owned. He took pride in his cars, house and yard always making sure everything was neat, clean and tidy. During football season Jerry and Becky would watch football while sporting Jerseys from their favorite teams.
Jerry loved his grandchildren, Cameron and Colby, with all his heart. Time spent at Pawpaw and Nana’s house when they were children was very special for him. They would draw, play with matchbox cars, figurines, Imaginext, Legos, Doughboy, sing to the Backstreet Boys, and he would hold them while dancing to the BeeGee’s.
Jerry also had a great sense of humor, cutting up, being silly and laughing with his friends and family. We loved and will greatly miss those times of laughter, singing, dancing, caring, concern and all the advice he would give hoping to keep us from hurt and heartache.
Loved ones that cleared the path for Jerry are his father Stewart Booney Greer, his mother Mary Lou Greer, sister Mary Jean Greer-Bingham and brother Vernon Simmons. Loved ones that will miss Jerry until they meet again are his wife of 45 years Rebecca Pennell Greer; his daughter April Denise Greer-Clark; his grandchildren Cameron Michael Clark and Colby Douglas Clark, brothers James Greer, his wife Judy, Larry Greer, his wife Marla, and Roger Greer.
Jerry will also be forever remembered by his nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
And so the story goes on until we see you again. We love you and miss you so much.
Mackie Funeral Service will be assisting the Greer family during this time. A graveside service will be held Saturday May 9, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at Whitnel First Baptist Church in Lenoir with Rev. Waitsel Beard officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to Caldwell County Hospice & Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645.
