Hazel Lou Carney, 73, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 4, 2020 and is now in the loving arms of her savior Jesus Christ. She was born on August 30, 1946 in Wilson, North Carolina to the late, William A. and Crettie Mae Lewis Cockrell. She was also predeceased by her husband, James E. Carney, Jr.; sisters, Barbara Rawls and Sandra Cockrell; and brothers, Ronnie, William and Jimmy Cockrell.
Hazel loved to dance and was a big fan of Tom Jones. She found the most joy however in her most cherished hobby, her family.
She is survived by her daughters, Teresa Gray, Lisa Clements (Daryl), Sherrie O’Connor (Michael) and Linda Carney; son, Shawn Bass (Heather); sisters, Shirley Valentine and Janice Preddy; brother, Donnie Cockrell; twelve grandchildren, Brandon Gray, Lindsi Thomas, Cassie Thomas, Brielle Norris, Whittney Carney, Tiffany Chiomo, Raven O’Connor, Gage Bass, Hannah Clements, Rachel Bass, Christian Clements, and Landon Bass; two great grandchildren, Easton and Colton Gray; many other family members and friends; and of course her “Dennis the menace”, little tink, “Ziggy Marley”.
