Sherry Sue Thompson, a Carrollton, Missouri resident, passed away after a long battle with cancer on Wednesday, April 29, 2020, at her home in Carrollton, Missouri.
Sherry lived ardently and was granted an earthly life of 64 years, 2 months, and 5 days.
It was on February 24, 1956, in Jackson County, Missouri, that the Lord blessed the home of Kenneth Orlo and Audrey Beatrice (Phipps) Thompson with the arrival of their second-born child, Sherry Sue.
She had an older sister. Debby, and they were later joined by a brother, Kenneth Orlo Jr., and three more sisters, Pauline Lorraine “Lori,” Crystal Lynn, and Melody Dean. Sherry attended school at Burk in Grandview, Missouri. Sherry was blessed with a daughter, Michelle Lynn.
Sherry was an over the road transporter and hauled to all 48 continental states. She drove for several companies hauling rock, refrigerant, and many other items, and she retired from Waller Trucking in Excelsior Springs, Missouri. She took Michelle and her infant grandson Trey on a hauling trip to Louisiana, and they had a great time and was able to see many landmarks. Michelle especially remembered driving across the 23-mile bridge over Lake Pontchartrain and seeing the alligators below. When Trey was a little older, he often went on the road trips with his grandma visiting many states and was able to see the many cultures and diversities of land, These memories are cherished and will always remain in Trey’s heart.
Sherry was independent but loved her time with family. Christmas was her favorite holiday because she loved to make Christmas candy and prepare a delicious dinner for her family. Sherry had an art when it came to time to bake and especially with the decorating of cakes. She created many beautiful cakes for friends and family to celebrate birthdays, weddings, and anniversaries. She once made an exceptionally large Easter Egg out of sugar that held a bunny scene inside the egg. She gave this to her sister, and the egg is always set out for display in the springtime. Sherry collected Native American artifacts but especially loved her collection of little Indian dolls. She also loved and collected tiger and figurines. When she was in town, she would never miss going to the Mud- Races because she was proudly cheering for her daughter, son-in-law, and grandson to win. She loved the excitement around the racing and loved riding in the big mud- trucks. She watched her grandson help build his mud-truck from the beginning stages from the body of a 1986 Ford Mustang that he painted black and green. Trey plans to change the color of his truck to black and pink, in memory of his grandma and her battle with cancer.
Sherry was loved by all that knew her and will be greatly missed.

Sherry is survived by her mother, Audrey Beatrice Thompson of North Kansas City; a daughter Michelle Lynn Thaller and her husband, Mark of Warrensburg, Missouri; three sisters, Debby Kile and her husband, Ralph of Parkville, Missouri, Pauline Lorraine “Lori” Thompson and her husband Greg of Odessa, Missouri, and Melody Dean Martin of Arizona; a brother, Kenneth Orlo Thomson, Jr. of Liberty, Missouri; grandchildren, Trey Alan Thompson, Cheyenne Deserae Begeman, Brittany Dawn Begeman, Heather Ann Thaller, Mark Alan Thaller, and Chad Lee Thaller; three great-grandchildren, Nathan Daniel Thompson, Letha Ann Thompson, and Cyla Ann Thaller; seven nephews, Branddon, Christopher, Kyle, Dakota, Micheal, Dustin, and Chuck; and her very dear and best friend of many years, Paul Prosser.

Sherry was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Orlo Thompson, Sr.; her grandmother, Ella Susan Kirk; a sister, Crystal Lynn Matthews, and a nephew, Brian Anthony Kile.
