FUNERAL RITES MONDAY FOR MRS. BETTY PIERCE

Mrs. Betty DeWeese Pierce, 92, one of the county's oldest residents died at the home of her son, Emory Pierce near Union Sunday. She had been in declining health for some time.

She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. F. B. DeWeese, Sr. and a native of Kemper county, but came to Neshoba county in early life.

Mrs. Pierce was married to John Pierce who died many years ago. She was a consecrated Christian and a member of the Methodist church.

She was ten years of age at the outbreak of the Civil War and remembered well the hardships the people were called upon to undergo.

Mrs. Pierce is survived by three sons, Emory Pierce, with whom she made her home, Lee Pierce of this city and Homer Pierce of Meridian. She is also survived by a half brother, F. B. DeWeese. A son, Dr. Charles Pierce of Texas, died several years ago.

Funeral rites were held Monday at noon from the Mars Hill Methodist Church, Neshoba county with Reverend Walter Evans of Edinburg, officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
