He was born in 1929 in Denver and graduated from St. Francis de Sales High School.
After high school, he completed a tour of duty in the Navy submarine service during the Korean War, sailing on the USS Sea Fox and the USS Secundo.
His father was president of the Motion Picture Operators Union, so Mr. Dooley began his career running film projectors in movie theaters.
In the late 1950s, he bought King's Services, which supplied projection, photography, and set up services for conventions in Denver.
He met his wife of 45 years, Leota ("Lee") in 1963 when she contracted his business to provide services for a national librarian's convention.
In 1971, he sold King's Services and became manager of the Salida Golf Club.
Shortly after he managed the Mountain Circle H Ranch, using his experience at King's to recruit small professional meetings at the ranch, which soon became a favorite place to dine throughout the Arkansas Valley.
In the late 1970s he bought the Atomic Bar in Salida, renamed it Dooley's, and developed a thriving business.
In the mid 1980s Mr. and Mrs. Dooley retired to Chalk Creek where George became an active member of VFW Post 1166 and an overseer of properties of neighbors/friends in the Chalk Creek area.
He was an avid cribbage player and had been a skilled golfer and fly fisherman. Whatever he set out to do he did well.
His wife, Lee; his sister, Eileen McClay of Brighton and numerous nieces and nephews survive him.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Aug. 8 at VFW Post 1166, 27318 CR 314 in Johnson Village.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Angel of Shavano Hospice, 301 Oak Street, Suite E, P.O. Box 1168, Salida, CO 81201
