The Old 1857 Baker Family Bible says he died of Heat Exhaustion at age 46. He had been working in the hay field, working very hard and it was very hot. He had just come into the house, sit down in a chair and death occurred. Jane continued on with the home with the help of her children until they all were married. She then made her home with her children until she died June 10, 1922.

It appears that John named his first son after his father, Christopher; his first daughter after his mother, MaryAnn; and his second son after his brothers, Jacob and Henry. Jane named their third son, James Solomon after her father and brother, Solomon Willhoit.
