Mary Ruth Lehman
July 19, 1926 - May 1, 2020

At 93, Mary Ruth Lehman left this earth, carried by the angels into the open arms of God. She was the daughter of Christian K. and Mary Risser Lehman. Mary Ruth was the last surviving sibling in a family of nine.

She grew up on a farm in Millersville. Through her life she was always growing something in the ground. Towards the end, it was grapefruit seeds in a lid at her sink.

She graduated in 1945 from Eastern Mennonite High School in Harrisonburg, VA. Her formal education ended but that did not stop her from learning anything and everything. She read her whole life and read often to her children. In her 90’s she had to use a magnifying glass for her one good eye.

She married Richard Norman Lehman, Sr. on June 28, 1947, and they had 60 years together. They were members of ACTS Covenant Fellowship. He died on October 11, 2007.

Called “Ruth” all her life, she began using her full name, “Mary Ruth” the last ten years of her life. She lived in an apartment in Lancaster.

She was also an avid crocheter. She crocheted afghans for gifts to her children, her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren, and to anyone who needed warmth. She also volunteered for Office of Aging and for Prison Ministry.

Surviving are eight children (from oldest to youngest): Rachel (Paul) Keeler, Becky Zook, Ron (Mary Alice) Lehman, Rhoda (Dennis) Stoesz, Ruby Anderson, Robin (Randy) Snyder, Rick (Teresa) Lehman, Jr., and Raym (Linda) Lehman.

Mary Ruth prayed constantly. She prayed for her children, her grandchildren (23), her great-grandchildren (22), and her great-great-grandchildren (2). She loved them all.
