Hancock Co., GA, Court of Ordinary Minutes 1799-1817, p. 342, 7 Nov 1808: Dolly Chappell, the widow of Joseph Chappell, took a child's portion of his estate. The court minutes note that Joseph Chappell had four children.
Hancock Co., GA, Court of Ordinary Minutes 1817-1837, p. 158, 3 Jul 1820: Henry Harris, guardian of Joseph Chappell's children, made an estate return. The orphans were identified as Absalom H. Chappell, Joseph J. Chappell, Henry Chappell and Benjamin T. Chappell. [My note - a child was legally considered an "orphan" if his/her father had died; the mother could still be living. sks374]
Hancock Co., GA, Court of Ordinary Minutes 1817-1837, p. 359, 6 Dec 1824: The personal estate of Joseph Chappell was ordered distributed between Absalom H. Chappell, Joseph J. Chappell, Henry Chappell, and Benjamin T. Chappell who were the heirs of Joseph Chappell.
