John Buxton Gee Jr., 75, of Greensboro, N.C., passed away on April 1, 2017. The funeral service will be held at the First Baptist Church, 1000 W. Friendly Avenue, Greensboro, NC on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary, with visitation to follow. The family will hold a private inturnment at another time. Born in Henderson, NC, Mr. Gee was preceded in death by his parents, John Buxton Gee Sr., and Mary Powell Gee. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Nancy Thomas Gee, his children, Scott Gee and wife, Dee, of Haymarket, VA, Laurie Gee and husband, Jabbar Bouabidi, of Atlanta, GA, Lisa Blair, of Greensboro, Thomas Leary and his wife Jennifer, of Greensboro, NC, his sisters, Mary Gee Owen, Ph.D., and husband Charles Owen, of Asheville, NC, and Elizabeth Gee, of Newport News, VA, and eight grandchildren, Caroline and Sarah Gee, Hannah and Sabrina Bouabidi, Jackson and Lucas Blair, Emory and Yates Leary. John graduated from Henderson High School and Duke University, where he played football and received a bachelors degree in civil engineering. He remained a life-long supporter of Duke athletics. John worked for Carolina Steel for a number of years, as well as several other local firms. He recently retired from John B. Gee, PE, Inc, his engineering consulting business. John was elected president of his senior class at Henderson High School. He was recognized as the Young Engineer of the Year by the Professional Engineers of North Carolina, was a member of the Greensboro Junior Chamber of Commerce, where he served two terms as an Area Chairman and was a member of the Piedmont Triad Charitable Foundation Founders Club. John was also a long-time member of the First Baptist Church, where he served on the Master Plan Task Force, the Finance Committee, and several others.
