Rex's Obituary
U.S. Veteran

Rex Eugene Cook, 86, of Lincoln , Nebraska , passed away on May, 2nd, 2020 at Bryan Health after a brief battle with cancer. He was born the fifth child to parents Ray Cook and Alice (Quinn) Cook, on March, 26th, 1934 in the family farmhouse at Mascot, Nebraska. His sisters, Eleanor, Eva, and Pat did not like the name Rex, so they named him Bill to go with his brother’s name, Bob.

He graduated from Mascot High School in 1951.

Rex met Laverne Ann (Haussler) Cook in 1953 at the Orleans Fair Barn Dance. They were married on January, 30th, 1954 in Oxford, Nebraska. Together they raised four children in Holdrege, Nebraska: Michael, Cynthia, Timothy, and Angela .

Rex volunteered to serve in U. S. Army from 1954 to 1955. He was stationed in Japan.

After Rex returned from the service, he went on to study Telegraphy at Pueblo Community College in preparation of working for the railroad.

Rex worked in sales most of his career and worked his way up in his company to become Regional Vice President of Sales for McKesson Drug. He retired in 1994 after 30 years of service. Laverne and Rex then wintered in Arizona with their Holdrege friends.

Rex enjoyed ballroom dancing with Laverne, golf, Nebraska football, genealogy, coffee with friends, church on Saturday night, and making people laugh. He dearly loved his wife, children, grandchildren and the special gift of his great grandchild, Grant.

Rex was ecstatic to achieve two hole in ones in his golf career. He received various fraternal organization and company awards . He enjoyed volunteering for Nebraska Boy's State Golf for many years.

Those that will mourn his one of a kind earthly presence are his wife Laverne of Lincoln, Nebraska, daughters Cindy (John) Way of Rapid City, SD, and Angie (Jim) Schueth of Lincoln, Nebraska; grandsons, Joel Way of Rapid City, South Dakota, Adam Way of Homer, Alaska, Brandon Way of Omaha, Nebraska, Jack Schueth of Omaha, Nebraska, and Connor Schueth of Lincoln, Nebraska . Granddaughter, Amber Schueth (Aaron) Zimmer of Omaha, Nebraska and special great grandson, Grant Zimmer and precious nieces and nephews. Missing him also are; “The Neighbors”, “Friday Night Group”, “Golf Group”, and dear life long friends.

Those greeting Rex in heaven are; his mother and father, sisters and brother, his dear sons Michael and Timothy and great friends. He is currently debating with his sons and golfing with his buddies.

The family has entrusted Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home with the arrangements. Cremation was chosen. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date so all can come and share the stories of the character that was Rex.

Condolences may be sent to Laverne Cook c/o Butherus, Maser & Love, 4040 A Street, Lincoln, NE 68510.
