Helen Brown passed away Tuesday, May 5 at the age of 92. She was the daughter of Carl Livingston Gaines and Wilbert Viola Wooderson and the wife of the late Woodrow Wilson Brown. Helen was born November 25, 1927 in Sugar Land, Texas the third child of Carl and Wib Gaines. Her maternal family arrived in the Huntsville area in 1836 and her paternal family arrived in the same area around 1882. In first grade she and her family returned to Huntsville where she attended Huntsville High but graduated in California while assisting her older half brother and his young family while he served in the Navy during WWII.
Helen lived her full life head on and loved her family. She nurtured her family and grandchildren and always had family stories for her many nieces and nephews. She enjoyed her garden and was a great cook and always prepared a pound cake for many of her relatives on their birthday. She also loved to dance and had a witty sense of humor. She worked alongside her husband in their business in Houston for many years. She married the love of her life Wilson in March 1950 in Houston and their marriage lasted 57 years until Wilson's passing in Oct 2007.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings Carl Gaines, Evelyn Pepper, Joe A Gaines, Ruth Altman, Jerry Gaines, T L Gaines, and Dorothy Cottongin. She is survived by her daughter Lori and husband Jack Lowe of Sugar Land, 2 grandchildren; Jared Lowe and wife Ann of Goldsboro N.C., Megan Brown and husband Brady Brown; 3 great grandchildren; Parker Lowe, Emmylou and Jackson Brown and many nieces and nephews.
An 11 am graveside service was held on Saturday May 9 at Petree cemetery surrounded by family and friends.
