Deceased: IONE B. SPENCE; Date: December 29, 1999
Ione Bonney Spence, a native of Princess Anne County/Virginia Beach and resident of the area for 90 years, died peacefully in her home Dec. 28, 1999. She was the widow of Melvin E. Spence and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Paul Brumley; her son and daughter-in-law, E. Ronald and Anna M. Spence, all of Virginia Beach; and grandchildren, Jill Brumley Sarver and her husband, Jim, of Virginia Beach, Patrick N. Brumley Sr. and his wife, Karen, of Chesapeake, and Carson Spence of Virginia Beach. She was preceded in death by her grandson, David Paul Brumley. Also surviving are great-grandchildren, Judson and Berend Sarver, and Tiffany, Sarah and Patrick Brumley; and her special friend and caregiver, Lilly Cartwright.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Oak Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Lowe Norman and the Rev T.E. Thieman. The family will receive friends at the home of Mrs. Spence from 6 until 8 p.m. today. Burial will be at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Laskin Road Chapel, is handling arrangements. "

"Married December 3, 1926 - Melvin Earl Spence, single, and Ione L. Bonney, single - Melvin Earl Spence, age 21, born in Tyrell County, North Carolina and residing in Back Bay [Princess Anne County], Virginia, occupation Laborer, son of W.D. Spence and his wife, Emma G. - Ione L. Bonney, age 17, born in Princess Anne County, Virginia and residing in Princess Anne [Princess Anne County], Virginia, daughter of W.C. Bonney and his wife, Clara"
