GILES A. HARBOUR
Native of Woodford Dies at Hospital in 82nd Year
The death of Giles Arthur Harbour of Division street, who had resided in Bennington for the major part of his life, occurred at Putnam Memorial hospital this morning about 6 o'clock. He had been confined to the hospital since Sunday, although he had been in ill health over the past winter.
Mr. Harbour was born in Woodford, the son of Rosetta Hotchkiss and Jacob Harbour. His mother was from Naugatuck, Conn. He we would have been 82 had he lived until October 6 next. He married Harriet Aldrich of Woodford, who died on April 17, 1937. Three children were born to them, all of whom are dead, Silas Harbour, Loren Harbour and Mary Harbour Riley.
A carpenter by trade, Mr. Harbour had pursued his line for a number of years, but even since his retirement he had busied himself in other lines of work. He had been remarkably active until last winter and even then his illness did not compel him to refrain from being about. He was held in high affection by the children of the neighborhood and he always had professed an interest in whatever they undertook. He was known as "Gramp" Harbour to all on the street, grownups and children alike. His home and family were his chief devotion.
He leaves three grandchildren, Miss Doris Harbour of Williamstown, Frank Riley of Bennington and Helen Riley Walk of Macon, Ga.; one great grandchild, Marcia Riley, one sister, Miss Rose Harbour, several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held from his late home, 229 Division street, Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. C.M. Sturgess, Methodist pastor, will officiate and burial will be in Park Lawn cemetery.
