He served his country by enlisting in the Marines and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. He received an honorable discharge and was permanently retired due to physical disability in May of 1969.
James was very likable, had a pleasant personality, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was an avid football fan and was especially keen on discussing who would win the championship.
He is survived by his wife, Sonya L Siler Gladden of Asheboro, NC; two daughters, Antranette Gladden of Harper Wood, MI and Tana (Mike) Nelson of Lexington, NC; aunts, Elizabeth G. Ruffin of Asheboro, NC and Betty G. Cooper of Houston, TX; uncles, Tommy Gladden of Asheboro, NC, Sal Gladden, and Leottis Gladden both of Virginia Beach, VA, and Henry Gladden of Cincinnati, Ohio; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He will be missed by many cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be a limited walk-through viewing Friday, May 8th, 2020 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm.
