BLOOMINGDALE-Virginia Leota Chapman, 96, of Bloomindale, Indiana passed away at 10:54 am Sunday, May 3, 2020 at her residence. She was a retired registered nurse. She was born May 29, 1923 in Newport, Indiana to the late Douglas and Fern Reid. Her husband of 49 years, Claiborne Walter Chapman whom she married October 5, 1952 in Newport preceded her in death December 26, 2001. Survivors include one daughter, Carol Trench of Bloomingdale; two grandsons, John and Ryan Trench. She was preceded in death by a son Gene Chapman in 1979. She was a graduate of Newport High School and Ball State University. She was a member of Bloomingdale Friends Meeting Church. She served with the U.S. Army as a nurse at the Greenbrier Hotel. She was a nurse for Ball Memorial Hospital at Muncie and Methodist Hospital at Indianapolis. She enjoyed farm life and occasionally taking camping vacations and boating on the lake. She played with the Bloomingdale women’s softball team and loved to follow Turkey Run Warriors girl’s softball. Due to current health concerns and public safety, private graveside services will be held at Bloomingdale Friends Cemetery, with the Rev. Greg Goodrick officiating. Burial will follow.
