Ruby Edna Tinnon, 96, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2020. Born in Lexington, she was the daughter of the late William and Margaret Tinnon. She was a member of Crestwood Christian Church. Ruby raised three children, one who is deaf. With the help of Central Institute for the Deaf she taught her daughter to talk, go to public school, and how to live in a hearing world. Miss Ruby, as she was affectionately known, was a small but strong woman. She loved watching The Lawrence Welk Show, The Pioneer Woman, and listening to Mark Levin's radio show in the evening. My Favorite Things was one of her favorite stores, and to dine at the Spindletop Club brought her great joy. She always requested Monica as her server. She treated our mother with such love and care, and Mother loved her. She was known to take a zip-lock baggie filled with 25 pennies to the bank to get a quarter. She was a bridge playing, coke drinking, antique shopping Southern lady. Her sweet tooth was evident by the bags of chocolate candy, cookies, and ice cream always available. She was a very giving person and wanted nothing for herself.
Her greatest love by far was her family. With only a high school education, she raised a deaf daughter to live and succeed independently in a hearing world. Her son was forever her baby and her middle daughter was her support in all matters. Her five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren were the loves of her life. She was honored that a great-granddaughter was named after her. We like to call them the two Rubys.
A special note of appreciation goes to Glenda Hensley, our mothers caretaker for many years. She was an angel to her, and dearly loved.
"Mothers are endowed with a love that is unlike any other love on the face of the Earth." – MP Hinckley. She loved us, and we loved her.
Her survivors include two daughters, Cheryl (Richard) Rockburn, and Linda (David) Keturakis; one son, Steven Thornton; five grandchildren, Sarah (Ian) Hoffman, David (Sara) Rockburn, Daniel Rockburn, Christopher Keturakis, Michael Keturakis; and three great grandchildren, Bastian Hoffman, Ruby Hoffman, and Indigo Rockburn. A private service will be held at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home – Main Street. Burial will be in Lexington Cemetery.
