Mr. Stanley Floyd "Doc" Gray, age 77, of Dupont, Indiana entered this life on June 23, l942 in Scottsburg, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late Jesse Clarence and Ida Lou Davis Gray. In 1961 he graduated from Southwestern High School. He then joined the United States Navy on August 29, 1961 in Jefferson County, Indiana. He served aboard the USS A.J. Isbell (DD869) in the boiler room during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on August 20, 1965 at the U.S. Naval Station in Long Beach, California. He then remained in the Reserves until being discharged on August 28, 1967. Doc then started his career at Cummins Engine Company in Columbus, Indiana as a machine operator, retiring in 1996 after 31 years of service. In 1970 he was united in marriage to Sharon Lee Slack in Columbus, Indiana. This marriage was blessed with a son Barry and a daughter Angel. Doc was a lifelong collector and restorer of classic vehicles. He was a member of the CAM Car Club, Asphalt Angels and Jennings County Car Club. He participated in many car shows and had a room full of trophies. He loved going to cruise- ins and visiting with his many friends and fellow car collectors. Doc was very active and loved to dance and could dance the night away. Doc loved to ride motorcycles, and had a good collection. He was very patriotic and was a member of the Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the American Legion and the Legion Riders. He was also a member of the NRA. Doc died on Monday, May 4, 2020, at 2:45 a.m. at his home in Dupont, Indiana, with his loving family at his side.
A LOVING FAMILY
Doc will be missed by his loving son, Barry Allan Gray of Hanover, Indiana; his loving daughter, Angel Nichole Gray of Hanover, Indiana; his step son, Tony Rose and his wife Shonda of East Enterprise, Indiana; his loving grandchildren, Lindsay, Jesse (Sami), Tiffany, Emily, Nicholas and Harley; his adoring great grandchildren, Jayden, Jayla, Quintyn, Grace, Honestie, Christian and Diesel; his loving sister, Elaine Risk and her husband Larry of Florida; his loving brother, Jim Gray and Carolyn of Hanover, Indiana; his sister in law, Joyce Gray of Hanover, Indiana; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Jesse Clarence Gray, died June 26, 1998, his mother, Ida Lou Davis Gray, died March 18, 1994, his brother, Lester Gerald "Jerry" Gray, died May 26, 2016, his nephew, James Robert Hatton, died September 26, 1990, his nephew, J. R. Risk.
FUNERAL CEREMONY
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, May 9, 2020, at 3:00 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre - Hanover Chapel, 278 East Main Street in Hanover, Indiana. Memorial motorcycle ride and procession will follow to the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1415 North Gate Road IN Madison, Indiana with private burial on Monday.
VISITATION
Friends may visit Friday from 3:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre-Hanover Chapel, 278 East Main Street in Hanover, Indiana.
MILITARY HONORS
A final salute will be conducted at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre-Hanover Chapel, 278 East Main Street in Hanover, Indiana with full military honors to follow by the United States Naval Ceremonial Unit and the Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the American Legion.
