Willie Ruth “Rittie” Young was born December 13, 1940 in Birmingham, AL to the late Willie Simpson and Emma Simpson. Ruth accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Birmingham, AL.

Ruth graduated from Carver High School in Birmingham, AL. She also attended Indiana Business College. Ruth was known for her love of hair, make-up and clothes. Anyone who knew Ruth would know she never left the house without her make-up!

Ruth was a makeup artist and Counter Manager for Este Lauder at Lazarus in Castleton mall for 20 years. She also was a part-time model for The Helen Wells modeling agency. After leaving Lazarus, she began working for RCI where she was a Vacation Counselor. While there she developed her love for travel and became a Brand Ambassador, often being seen the company promotional videos and brochures. Ruth was also a member of the Red Hat Society.

Ruth loved to cook and host family gatherings, whether it was hosting Sunday family dinners or an impromptu cookout. You could never say you were on a diet around Ruth; she was always baking some type of cake, pie and recently started making candy from a recipe she got from the Cooking Channel.

“Pooh Pooh” as she is affectionately by her grandchildren, loved to spending time with them. Whether they were spending the night, taking them out to lunch, or taking them to and from school and some type of practice. Ruth was always available.

God called Ruth home Friday May 1, 2020 at the age of 79. Preceding her in death was her sister JoAnn Griffin. Ruth leaves to cherish her loving memory: Cedric Young(Shawn)son, Robert Young(son), Karen Barlow(daughter), eight grandchildren, one great-grandson, two brothers - Herman Simpson( Patricia), Terence Walker(Cherri), four sisters- Emma Jean Frazier( Timothy), Loretta Richardson, Dorothy Staley, Brenda Billingsley(John) along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Ruth’s service will be held privately.
