Obituary for Barbara Stephens
Barbara Nell Sullivan Stephens, age 85, went to be with the Lord surrounded by her family on April 22, 2020, after a short illness. She lived a long, full and meaningful life that impacted everyone that was fortunate to have known her.

Barbara was born January 7, 1935, in Dallas, Texas, to James Collier Sullivan and Nevyl Holt Sullivan Pensinger. She was raised by her mother and beloved stepfather, John Kenneth Pensinger. She graduated from Arlington Heights High School in Fort Worth and attended McMurry College and Texas Christen University. Following college, she moved to Midland, Texas, where she met Russell Aubrey Stephens, (dob 1926, dod 2015) and they were married on October 12, 1956. They resided in Midland until the early 70's when they moved to Dallas, Texas. She later lived in San Antonio, Texas before returning to Dallas.

Through the years, Barbara was involved in numerous activities including the Dallas Junior League (50 year member), Assistance League of Dallas, Northwood Women’s Club, Richardson High School PTA, and Booster Club. She spent many hours volunteering for her church (Church of Transfiguration), Austin Street Shelter, SMU Mother's Club, and Kappa Kappa Gamma Mother's Club.

Barbara's world revolved around her relationship with the Lord, her family (especially her nine grandchildren and great-grandson) and her friends. Her home and heart were ALWAYS open to all. She loved spending time with her family, going to church, cooking, needlepointing, and sharing stories from her childhood. She also had a passion for sports and loved cheering on her children and later her grandchildren in all their activities.

She is survived by her three children, Kelly Stephens Lancaster (Brent), John Russell Stephens (Connie), Elizabeth Stephens James (Ed); her nine grandchildren Caroline Lancaster, Sarah Lancaster, Holt Stephens, Coleman Stephens (Krissy), Carson Stephens (Ceci), Harrison James, Walker Lancaster, Phillip James, William James; her great-grandson, Jacob Secor, and her sister, Cynthia K. Pensinger.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather, her brother Jimmy Ray Sullivan and her two stepbrothers John and Rex Pensinger.

Due to the current Pandemic, a celebration of life will be held at a future date. A family graveside service was held at Restland Cemetery on May 2, 2020. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Scottish Rite Children's Hospital or Grant Halliburton Foundation or a charity of your choice.
