Carl graduated from Charleston High School, attended Eastern Illinois College, and served in Europe with the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked over 40 years as a railroad detective for New York Central, Penn Central, and Conrail (Roselake Yards) before retiring in 1992. He was a member of the American Legion Post #1994 of Keyesport, IL for 22 years, enjoyed taking walks, doodling and pencil sketchings, reading, and living by Carlyle Lake. He was a train enthusiast and was well known for his excellent memory for dates and events. Everyone wanted him on their Trivia Pursuit team.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leniel and Charlotte nee Schmidt Griffin; his first wife, June nee Coartney Griffin; second wife, Tressa “Terri” nee Dipple Griffin; two brothers and their wives: Rev. Dale (Marjorie) Griffin and Donald (Marjorie) Griffin; and his beloved dog, Buddy, and cat, Molly.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 12 noon on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, Maryville, IL. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled in the fall for family and friends.
Funeral service will be at 12 noon following the visitation with Rev. Roger Wright officiating. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Collinsville, IL.
