"AMOS FLORA, BROTHER OF FLORA LADY, DIES IN WESTERN HOWARD.
"Amos Flora, one of the well known citizens of western Howard county, where he had resided almost continuously for 65 years, and a brother of Mrs W S Ewing of this city, died last Friday morning about four o'clock, following a three weeks' illness with kidney trouble. Although he had
been complaining for a long while it was not until about three weeks previous to death that his condition became alarming. At that time, in company with his physician, Dr Lybrook of Young America, he visited a specialist at Indianapolis and his real trouble was diagnosed. He gradually grew worse until death came.
"Amos Kendall Flora, son of Daniel and Elizabeth Flora, was born in Preble county, Ohio, October 6, 1848, which would make him at the time of his demise 67 years, 10 months and 5 days of age. When a babe his parents moved to western Howard county and ever since that time he had lived within its borders, dying on the same farm to which
his father moved when he settled there. He grew to manhood in western Howard and in 1873 was united in marriage to Salome Fiant, with whom he lived a happy life and who still survives. The union was never blessed with birth. Several years ago, however, they took into their home and reared to manhood and womanhood a boy and a girl, who have become useful and well-to-do citizens. The girl, a child of
Mrs Flora's niece, is now the wife of Charles Bowerman and resides on the Flora homestead, while the boy of yesteryear, Will (Flora)Williams, is now a resident of Chicago. Both of them paid a last
tribute by attending the funeral.
"Besides the widow and two foster children, he is survived by two sisters,Mrs W S Ewing, residing on South Center street, this city, and Mrs Joe Fisher, of Western Howard county; also by two brothers, Rev. John W Flora, of Howard county, and Howard Flora, of Chili, Indiana.
"For over forty years he had been a member of the Old Order Brethren Church, in which faith he remained steadfast until the end. The funeral services were held at the residence, Sunday morning at ten o'clock, conducted by Rev Simon Morton, of Ohio. Interment was made in the
Union cemetery."
