Mary E. Darrough, twin of Rufus, was born Jan 28, 1850 in Mayville, KY. She grew up on the land purchased by her father and mother Samuel Vogan and Ricey Ann (Quaintance) Darrow when they came to the prairie around 1854 and settled in what is called Darrow, south of Sheldon, IL. Mary's parents Samuel Vogan Darrough, b. 10 Feb 1805 in V irginia and Ricey Ann Quaintance, b. 7 July 1814. Her parents were among first to be divorced in Iroquois, IL. They had been married in Maysville, KY. Mary is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery. Mary was from Sheldon, IL, had 13 children but lost 2 sets of twins. Mary taught school, supervised hired hands, raised 8 children, sent 4 to college, was never ill in 84 years.
