Mrs. MARIA AJA
BARRE--Mrs. Maria Aja, 82, of 20 Vine St., mother of Raymond C. Aja of Bennington, died Sunday at Central Vermont Hospital in Berlin after a long illness.

She was born in Santander, Spain, Dec. 16, 1887, daughter of Ramon and Alberta (Cantera) Aja. She was married to Joseph Aja May 16, 1908 in Santander. After their marriage, they moved to Montpelier and later to Northfield. They moved to Barre in 1923. Mr. Aja died April 21, 1956.

Besides her son in Bennington, she leaves two other sons, Manual of Barre and Joseph of South Barre; two daughters, Mrs. Roderick M. (Teresa) Goyette of Barre and Miss Trinidad Aja of Barre; a sister, Mrs. Irene Aja of Barre; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Hooker Funeral Home, 72 Academy St., Barre. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery.

Maria's parents are: Father, Ramon Aja; Mother: Alberta Fernandez Cantera, of Entrambasaguas, Navajeda, Santander, Spain.

She and Jose, had five children: Trinidad, Teresa Aja Goyette, Manuel Aja, Joseph Aja, aka Pepe; and Raymond Aja, married to Flora Aja.

She was born in Navajeda, Spain.

Educated in Catholic schools in Navajeda.

She was my Great Aunt, who I saw nearly everyday for many years, while living in Barre.
