SPRINGDALE A devoted and loving mother/grandmother and saintly wife, Nancy Ellen (Packard) Evans enjoyed a full and wonderful life; until she died peacefully on April 27, 2020 at the age of 89 after a short illness with her husband by her side.
While she was born in Detroit, Mich., in 1931 to Frances and Karl Packard, she grew up in Athens, Ohio, and spent plenty of her formative years with family in and around Belpre, Ohio. As a graduate of Athens High School (Class of 1949), she also stayed home to graduate from Ohio University. After college, she married fellow Athens High graduate and Marine/decorated veteran of the Korean War, David R. Evans. They moved briefly to Cleveland, where they started their 64 years of married life together.
Following a move to Cincinnati, they built their life together, moving to Forest Park in 1960 where they raised their three children, two dogs and spent more than five decades as proud residents of back porches all along Geneva Road.
In Forest Park, Nancy's strong Methodist faith drew her to a new church, Forest Chapel, where she spent more than six decades centered in her faith, fellowship and service to both the congregation and community.
Nancy reveled in her friendships and her social calendar, but cherished time with her family, as she and David traveled the world to visit their children, families and Marine Corps reunions.
An avid cook, Nancy delighted in hosting holiday feasts and was never afraid of using a spatula to invoke the Christmas spirit.
The couple moved a short distance from Forest Park to Maple Knoll Village in Springdale in February 2016, where they enjoyed a wonderful atmosphere with long-time friends, former members of Forest Chapel and new neighbors.
Nancy was predeceased by her parents; brother, Karl; daughter, Jane; nephew, Buzz; niece, Diane; and dogs, Mr. Bozo and Scruffy.
Survivors include her dedicated husband, David; her sons, Dave and Dan (Ann); son-in-law, Paul Zollo; five grandchildren: Ian, Marcus, Alexandra, Celine and Colin; nieces Gayle, Harriet, Betsy and Suzanne; and nephews George, John and Jim.
The family is grateful to the residents and staff at Maple Knoll, who embraced her and her husband. The family also wants to thank the staff and congregation of Springdale Nazarene Church, where the Evans family worshipped during Nancys final years.
Due to complications from the coronavirus pandemic, there will be no funeral service. Interment will be at Oak Hills Cemetery in Glendale. At a future undetermined date, the family plans to host a memorial service at Maple Knoll.
