Her hands were rarely still. She made clothes, quilts, knitted scarves, crotched baby blankets, cross stitched, embroidered and made Barbie doll clothes. She had a true love of nature. She loved planting and working in her beautiful flowers, their vegetable gardens and feeding “her” birds as she called them.
For most of her life she was a homemaker but also worked at Sears during the Christmas season to make sure Santa visited her children. She worked at Burlington Industries after her children were grown.
Although she suffered from dementia, she could still recognize and name her loved ones in photos and she still laughed at old stories we shared. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. Her greatest talent was being our Mom and God blessed us when she became our Mother.
A month before she passed, an expression we always used, was “I love you, don’t forget it”. She replied, “I won’t forget it, I remember it in the morning, at lunch and at night and I remember the birds and all the colors.”
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Willie, John, and Glen and her sisters, Clara, Mildred and Doris. She is survived by her daughter, Gaynell Parker (Doug) and son, Kenneth Parker (Denise), her sister, Pauline Martin of Rocky Mount, NC, four grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.
For her love of animals, she would wish any memorial donations to be made to any animal rescue program.
The family would like to thank Clapp’s Nursing Center and their staff for her care.
