William L. Leslie was not the child of Matthew and Mary Lively Lessley. They had no children of their own. The confusion comes from a child named "William W. Lessley" who was listed as living with Matthew and Mary on the 1860 census. This William was, in fact, Matthew's cousin, and he was living there along with his father Alexander Lessley. Alexander was the uncle of Matthew Lessley.

"J B Atkinson and wife have not returned from Mpls whither they went to care for their grief stricken dau, Mrs Wm Leslie, who lost her husband by the mill explosion in that place last week. We see by the Mpls papers that it is their intention to return some time this week with their dau.
P S:Since the above was in type the grief stricken party have arrived with all that remains of the two unfortunate young men, Chas. Kimball and Wm Leslie."
