Alvin Robert Stewart, 83, the son of James Alfred and Florence L. (Shaw) Stewart, was born on May 1, 1936, in Oelwein, Iowa. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Art Degree in Journalism.

Alvin served his country in the US Army, 1958 – 1962.

On June 28, 1959, Alvin married Karen Louise Schroeder, in Elgin.

Formerly of Newton, Alvin enjoyed his work in marketing for Hanson Directory, from which he retired. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and Newton Masonic Lodge #59 A.F. & A.M., where he was a 50-year member. He was an avid Chicago Bears and Iowa Hawkeye fan.

Alvin died on Tuesday evening, April 28, 2020, at the Iowa Veteran's Hospital in Des Moines. Burial in the Iowa Veteran's Cemetery in Adel.

Alvin is survived by his wife Karen of Johnston; four sons, Kevin Stewart, Craig (Ann) Stewart, Keith Stewart, and Larin (Melody) Stewart; daughter-in-law Jill (Todd) Hickle; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his sister Maryann (Lanny) Gibson; sister-in-law Norma Stewart; and neighbors and friends.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; a brother and sister, both in infancy; and a brother James Stewart.
