Lord Richard Valentine Gascoyne-Cecil was the second son of Robert Gascoyne-Cecil, 6th Marquess of Salisbury, and his wife, Marjorie Olein Wyndham-Quin, granddaughter of the 5th Earl of Dunraven and Mount-Earl. He was a Conservative politician and freelance journalist who was killed in Rhodesia while covering the country's Bush War.
