Gladys Smith Stewart, 93, of Pampa, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2020 in Pampa.

Due to the current community regulations regarding large gatherings, a private family service will be held on Wednesday April 29, 2020, at Hillcrest Cemetery in McLean with chaplain Larry Virnau of Texas Home Health and Hospice. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa.

Mrs. Stewart was born August 24, 1926 in McLean to Emory and Pearl Smith. She was a 1944 graduate of McLean High School. Gladys was a musician with an orchestra in Amarillo during World War II. She married Truitt Stewart on February 15, 1946 in Amarillo. He preceded her in death on April 7, 1980. They owned and operated a gas station in California, and the Phillips 66 gas station and religious bookstore in McLean. She sang in a quartet in McLean for many years, and also had a radio ministry in Shamrock. Gladys moved to Pampa in 1981 and eventually opened The Loft Tea Room on Cuyler St. She was famous for her cinnamon rolls.

She was a member of Briarwood Church, enjoyed cooking, writing poems and songs, and going to singings at area churches. She worked for Gray County Latchkey, loved kids, and wanted everyone to know Jesus. Her most enjoyable times were spent with her loving family.

Survivors include her three daughters, Paula Rae Molone and husband Dan of Dumas, Rhonda Estes and husband Dan of White Deer and Trudy Genee Myers and husband Roger of Wylie; seven grandchildren, Darin Molone and wife Kellie, Valerie Damron and husband John, Micheal Molone and wife Melissa, Carey Estes, Chris Estes and wife Misty, Holly Taylor and husband Daniel, and Justin Myers and wife Xiaoyan; 19 great grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren.
