Travis was the son of J. T. Williams and Carolyn Scott Williams. He was educated in the Crisp County School System. He then attended the Turner Job Corps in Albany, Georgia. Afterwards, he relocated to Atlanta, Georgia to work in the Electrical trade. He moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee and got his GED. He enrolled in the Chattanooga College for Solar Engineering. He had a change of plans and decided to go to Memorial Hospital of Sedexo Healthcare.
He was married to Tamekia Lamona Quarterman Williams. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Tommy J. Scott, his paternal grandparents, Fred Williams Sr and Louise Williams, mother-in-law, Lucille Quarterman and nephew, Labyron Merritt.
