Mr. Glendon Ray Carroll, Sr., 86, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2020, at the Teague Nursing Home. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery.

Glendon was born on September 23, 1933, in Stewards Mill, Texas, to the late Jesse Leroy and Jarrial "Jewell" Dean Awalt Carroll. He attended school in Fairfield and served in the U. S. Army.

After his discharge, he returned to Freestone County and made his home in Teague. He married Iva Nicholas on January 24, 1954, and they shared over sixty-six years of marriage.

He worked as a pipeline inspector, then later as a general contractor and owned Jacks' Manufacturing then Carroll Lumber in Teague. His contributions to the community can be seen in the numerous homes he constructed in and around Freestone County from 1973 until his retirement in 2007.

Glendon was well known for his sense of humor, big smile, and big cigars. He was a longtime cattle rancher and loved to rodeo. He and Iva spent many weekends participating in rodeos and was a member of numerous rodeo associations all over the country. He served as President of the Teague Rodeo Association for almost two decades. Glendon was a very accomplished calf roper, having won numerous championships, buckles, and saddles during his lifetime. He continued to rope into his early seventies.

Glendon loved horses and spending time with his grandchildren, and despite his Alzheimers in his later years, he enjoyed seeing his great-grandchildren. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Teague.

He was preceded in death by his step-mother, Ruth Miller Carroll; and a brother, Don Carroll.

Survivors include his wife, Iva Carroll; son, Glendon Ray Carroll, Jr.; daughters, LaDonna Carroll Turner, and Vickey Carroll Little and her husband, David, all of Teague; grandchildren: Kristen Little Skinner and her husband, Clint, Jeremy Little and his wife, Adrian, and Trent Carroll Turner; great-grandchildren: Tori Ann Skinner, Kendal Turner, Brice Skinner, Hudson Little, Sutton Little, and Brynn Little; sisters, Sharon Hagen and her husband, Roy, and Lecia Stautzenberger and her husband, Jess; James Carroll and Steven Carroll and his wife, Nora; sisters-in-law, Frances Carroll and Velva Jo Magness; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
