Richard ("Rick") Brian Dodd 1944 ~ 2018 Rick was born on December 11, 1944 in Seattle, and passed away on February 6, 2018, shortly after being diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He grew up in Normandy Park, and graduated from O'Dea high school in 1963 where he played football. He continued his schooling and football at the University of San Francisco, where he graduated in 1967 with a B.S. in Business. He earned a law degree from the University of Washington in 1970. He loved attending Husky football games, and was a proud season ticket holder for many years; his favorite companion was his daughter, Sheila. Rick was appreciative for the scholarships which allowed him to attend these schools, and he and Polly were pleased in turn to fund scholarships at these schools. He also received an LLM in Taxation from New York University in 1971. Rick was among the early employees of Shidler, McBroom, Gates, and Lucas, the firm where he continued to work, through its iterations as Preston, Gates and Ellis, and K&L Gates, for 40 years. He worked on a prolific number of acquisitions, public offerings, and other ventures for clients such as Microsoft, VoiceStream / T-Mobile, Labor Ready, and Univar. He was proud to be included among the peer-nominated list of "Best Lawyers in
America" many times. After retiring, Rick loved spending time with his family and playing golf at his "home" courses of Broadmoor, Useless Bay, and PGA West. Rick was also able to journey to play several courses in Ireland, England, and Scotland. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 43 years, Polly; daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Richard Jensen; grandchildren Richard III (Trey) and Grace Jensen; and siblings Terry Dodd, Steve Dodd, Mike Dodd, and Maureen Martin; as well as many much-loved extended family members. His service will be held at Epiphany Parish of Seattle on Friday, March 9th at 2:00pm. If you would like to make a donation in his name, please consider the University of Washington Law School, an organization near to Rick's heart.
