Army Sgt. 1st Class Kettle was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Kettle died in Nangarhar Province of wounds sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. Jeffrey was a fun loving kid growing up. He loved the outdoors, sports and would hunt squirrels when he visited his uncle. Madill, Oklahoma is where he lived for a short time after graduating from high school and enlisted in the Army in 1993. Jeffrey was a Special Forces soldier who served in hot spots such as Iraq, Bosnia and Burundi. He told friends that the Taliban were giving the U.S. forces a tough time and would be met by reciprocal force. During his military service he received awards and decorations including the Bronze Star, Army Commendation, Parachute Badge and Army achievement medal. Knowing exactly what could happen to him over there, he still chose to serve his country – he always wanted to be in the Army and to excel. Jeffrey wanted to be buried at Arlington because he wanted to be buried among heroes.
