Dorothy E. Benson passed away at the age of 99 years on April 18, 2020 at Luther Acres located in Lititz, PA. Born September 21, 1920 in Wallace, South Dakota, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mayble Peterson Ess. Dorothy was the wife of the late John Frederick Benson who passed in 1997.
John and Dorothy lived and worked in Minnesota and Iowa before retiring to Arizona. He was a Railroad Depot agent and she a bookkeeper. They loved to dance the fox trot. Dorothy enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and traveling. She was an avid sports fan and a follower of politics. She raised tropical fish, was active in Lutheran Church groups, and maintained a kitchen with an endless supply of cookies. She will be missed.
Dorothy is survived by her only daughter, Joan A. Herr and her husband Marvin of Lebanon, PA. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Marianne Goyer and her husband Doug, Kathleen Bagan, and Josh Herr; and one great grandson Sebastian Herr. Her only sibling was her twin brother, the late Donald Ess, of North Little Rock, Arkansas who preceded her in death by 2 hours.
Interment will be at a later date in Arizona. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothy’s memory may be sent to Luther Acres, 600 East Main St, Lititz, PA 17543
