Betty Marie Lemons, 65, of Clay City, died of complications from lung cancer at 12:35 p.m. Friday, August 10, 2007, at her residence with her family.

Mrs. Lemons was born June 3, 1942, in Noble, the daughter of Clayson A. and Nella Grace McDowell. She married Galen Sons in 1959 and had two children. She married Charles Lemons on November 25, 1977.

She spent several years working at Spartan's and The Three Sisters before retiring in 1984 due to a massive heart attack.

She was a member of Rebekah's Lodge in Clay City. She enjoyed playing cards, sewing, knitting, crocheting and various other crafts. She also enjoyed sharing her skills, knowledge and love with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Lemons is survived by her husband, Charlie Lemons; children, Gayla (Sons) Tanner and her husband, Charles, and Douglas Sons and his wife, Brandee, of Idar Oberstien; stepchildren, Peggy (Lemons) Watters and her husband, Gene, Charles (Leon) Lemons and his wife, Janie, and Alan Lemons; grandchildren, Jeremy, Amy, Jamie, Ashley, Sheena, Constance, Amanda, Christina, Jennifer, Christopher, Natasha, Brendan, Fiona, Damien and Alyssa; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Housey, Nella Dilley and her husband, Woodrow, Leona Mae DiSandro, and Kay Lomas; and brothers, Glen McDowell and Ronald McDowell and his wife, Wanda.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Adrian McDowell; and sisters, JoAnn McDowell, Hazel Clark and Dorothy Bricker.

Graveside services were held at Hannah Cemetery with Pastor Michael Dodge officiating.

Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Clay City was in charge of arrangements.
