Kimberly Kyle Rodgers Huschka was born September 12, 1958, and died April 21, 2020. She was born to Kenneth Homer Rodgers and Marilyn Louise Parker Rodgers in Midland, Texas. The family of four, including older sister Karen Elizabeth, moved to Odessa and tamed the West Texas oil fields until 1978. After graduating from Permian High School (MOJO) in 1976, Kim moved to Wichita Falls, Texas to attend Midwestern State University, majoring in Biology. After graduation, Kim moved to Houston, Texas to work in the oil field, until she was hired by the City of Houston as an environmental microbiologist. For more than 30 years, Kim served the people of the Greater Houston Area, testing water and dairy, keeping Houstonians safe and healthy through hurricanes, floods, and everyday rain storms.

Kim was blessed with two daughters, Rachael Karen and Courtney Lyn, both of whom survive her. She is also survived by her beloved husband Doug, a naturalized Texan who followed his love south from Wisconsin. Kim leaves behind cousins, extended family, and many friends. She was the anchor, sounding board, refuge, stand-in mom, friend, and shoulder to lean on for countless friends of her daughters and children of her friends. Kim was a true Texan--strong, resilient, tough, beautiful, proud, and friendly. She shot straight, sang sweetly, and loved hard. Practical to a fault, compassionate beyond measure, and an incredible steward of the Earth, Kim always had a song lyric, joke, or insightful piece of advice that she knew you needed. She was a constant companion, best friend, sister, mother, wife, a true light in this world and we are all better for knowing her. We honor her memory by lifting each other up through service and kindness.

Kim was preceded in death by her mother and father.

A private graveside service will be held at Garden Park Cemetery in Conroe, Texas on Saturday, May 30, 2020 and will be available via Facebook Live on Courtney Phillips’ profile. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to No Kid Hungry (nokidhungry.org) or the Montgomery County Women’s Center (mcwctx.org).
