Mr. Daniel Thomas "Thom" Carr III, age 67, of Fort Lauderdale, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at Holy Cross Hospital. At the time of Thom's passing he was in the hearts of those he loved the most.
Born on May 9, 1952 in Princeton, West Virginia, Thom was the son of the late Daniel Thomas Carr, Jr. and Laura Juanita (Pack) Carr. Thom was raised and educated in Princeton, West Virginia and graduated from West Virginia University with a business degree. On November 9, 1995, Thom was married to J. Michael Heider DDS, and they were blessed with a relationship of 35 years. Thom was a man of many talents and accomplishments. He started piano lessons at the age of 7 with his beloved Vera Payne and was playing like Liberace by the age of 12. He released an album of his hits "Broadway & Beyond" in 2014, reviewed as a "dazzling collection of twenty-three piano solos". He continued to play and entertain audiences throughout his life. Thom started showing horses in 1964. He was the state champion 3 years in a row with the Tennessee Walking Horse (Juvenile division) title. Thom was also an accomplished landscaper and florist. He was a real estate agent with Atlantic Properties International.
Those who knew and loved Thom resound the same refrain: "He was a beautiful force of light and life; a beautiful smile on his face; kindness, consistency, unconditional friendship; he was a ray of light and is now an angel; a grand patron and soulmate; one man you can always count on; We love you; he always made me smile and was a beautiful soul who touched my heart; his spirit will forever light the skies with the brightest of sparkles; he had a kind word and twinkle in his eye; a bright light on this earth; a genuinely kind hearted, non-judgmental man; his beaming smiles were a beacon of vibrant energy and the joyful moments of his love and light brought warmth, energy, and laughter to all". "Go forth and shine Thom!" You will be a star in our heaven and always in our hearts!"
Thom is survived by his spouse, J. Michael Heider, DDS; and his sister, Suzi Carr of Los Angeles, California.
Due to the Coronavirus pandemic and out of respect to the wellbeing of Thom's family and visitors, a Celebration of Life and Memorial Service will be held at a later date and time.
