Charlotte "Penny" Foster, 78, of Bemidji, MN went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 28, 2016 at Havenwood Care Center, Bemidji.

She is survived by her husband, Guy Foster of Pennington, MN; sons, Anthony Decker of Minnesota, Andrew (Joan) Decker of St. Paul, Robert (Deb) Judd of East Bethel and daughter, Patricia (John) Schrader of Lake George; step-children, Kevin Foster of Woodbury, Kimberly Thomas of Pennington, Michael Foster of South St. Paul, and Donnell (Robert) Barrett of St. Paul; and sister, Muriel Gill of St. Paul; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mary (Bauer) Wildenauer; brothers, Clarence, Cloud, Clement, Charles, Conrad and Cornelius; sisters, Mary Schwagel, Mildred O'Brien, Martha Taylor, Mathilda Dowd and Monica Olsen.

Born July 2, 1937, Penny was the 12th child in a family of 13. In her younger years, she enjoyed being a wife and mother, bird watching, reading, dancing, playing card games, gardening and living on a hobby farm. In her later years, Penny was a champion. Having Multiple Sclerosis and living 28 years in a wheelchair in the nursing home was not an easy task, but she did it with an amazingly resilient spirit! She did not allow it to define her, but instead allowed the Lord to refine her through it. She will be remembered for her smile, warmth, encouraging words, beautiful voice, love for life, quick whit up until the very end, and most of all, her deep friendship with the Lord Jesus Christ. She made a difference in the lives of all that knew her. In the midst of our grief, we celebrate her life.

Psalm 91 was Penny's favorite chapter in the Bible. She believed and lived out the first two verses: "He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, My refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust!"

Penny's family is very grateful to the staff and volunteers at Havenwood Care Center in Bemidji for caring for her all those years and for making her transition into eternity a peaceful one by the loving, thoughtful attention that they gave! You were her family too!

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji with Pastor Kent Dudley officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials are preferred to Havenwood Care Center for the music department.
