He was retired from the Chrysler Corporation in Detroit, Michigan. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, May 2, at Baldwin-Hughey Funeral Home in New Smyrna Beach. Burial was at Edgewater Cemetery, Edgewater, FL.

Surviving are his wife, Verna Byrd; one son, Charles Hayden Byrd of new Smyrna Beach; two daughters, Frances R. Ford of New Smyrna Beach and Betty H. Boehmer of Pagosa Springs, Colorado; five sisters, Elsie Adams, Belva Trent, Bertha Reavis and Christine Hayes, all of Wilkes County, and Garnet Combs of Baltimore, MD.
