Did you hear the bells ringing and the angels singing on January 9, 2017, in Kinsley, KS., when they called Mildred Loraine (Winters) Dupree home to be in Heaven and get her new body? Mildred was born August 19, 1927. She was such a kind, loving, gentle and giving person and served her time on earth so well. She will be missed by her husband, Kenneth Dupree (Kinsley), daughter Linda Thomas (Kinsley), and son Keith Dupree (Kinsley) and many loved ones and friends.
Please join us January 12, 2017, at McKillip Memorial Chapel in Kinsley, KS. at 10:30 am to honor this special lady. Mildred & Kenneth have loved flowers all their lives, so flowers would be appreciated, but in lieu of flowers a memorial is set up at McKillip Funeral Home to defer expenses. Mildred was preceded in death by her mother Ora Bell Winters and all her siblings: Sylvia Lancaster, Noble Winters, Dorothy Thornton, Goldie Stull, Lonnie Winters, and a granddaughter Jill Miller.
Mildred grew up on a farm 7 miles north of Kinsley and attended grade school at Badger Hill Country School. She walked 3 miles to get to school and loved to learn. She graduated from Kinsley High School in 1945 and played the bass and snare drums in the 100 piece band.
Mildred married Kenneth Eugene Dupree on October 4, 1945 and celebrated 71 years together living in Kinsley, KS.
Mildred was very talented and loved to sew and cook. Even in the latter part of her life, she was found still looking at her recipe books. The grand kids say they remember all the banana chocolate chip cookies she made for them. Others remember the chicken casserole, the ham loaf, and the frog-eye salad. So many wonderful memories of this dear lady!
Mildred worked several places in Kinsley starting out at Fairmont Ice Cream Shop making her famous chocolate milk shakes, and then worked downtown at Duckwalls for $18 a week. She told how she had to scoop candy by the pound. When the kids were young, Mildred took in ironing so she could stay at home, and then went to Jensen’s Dairy Queen and then the 56 Diner. From there she was off to the Mammel’s Meat Department and then cashier at Hearn’s Jack and Jill and Weidenheimer IGA grocery stores. Actually we could go on and on about Mildred touching on her love for quilts, he ability to shop til she dropped, her love for tea pots and tea parties, the thousands, no millions, of pictures she took, and her devoted love for every dog they owned.
Mildred, Go Rest High On That Mountain, because your work here on earth is done. As for us left behind, we will think about all the precious memories that death can not erase. Enjoy your new body!!∼****************************************
