Charles Henry Bennett, a veteran of World War I, died at his home in Port Matilda Saturday morning at 9:40 o’clock following a year’s illness.

He was born Aug. 10, 1890, in Port Matilda, the son of Henry and Nancy (Jones) Bennett. On April 4, 1918, at Cumberland, Md., he was married to Eva Price. He was a lifelong resident of Port Matilda.

He is survived by his wife and eight children: Mrs. Charles Weller, Mrs. Harold Sickels, Mrs. Edgar Gearhart, Charles, Frederick, Merrill, Ray and Dean Bennett all of Port Matilda; three grandchildren, these brothers and sisters: Harry Bennett of Port Matilda, Colonel Bennett of McKeesport, Alonza Bennett of Tyrone, Mrs. George Reese of Lewistown, Mrs. Bertha Vaughn of Philipsburg and Mrs. Leah Weaver of Tyrone.

He was a member of the Port Matilda Methodist church, the Port Matilda American Legion post. For many years he had been employed as a woodsman. He enlisted in the army Aug. 24, 1918 and was honorably discharged Dec. 14, 1918.

Friends are being received at the home until the time of the funeral services.
