Gerald “Jerry” Myers, age 91, of Gratiot, WI., passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 with his family by his side. He was born May 22, 1928, the son of Alva Levi and Estella Myers in Winslow, IL. He grew up in Warren and attended Warren High School. In January of 1946 Jerry left high school early to join the United States Army during WWII where he fought in the Pacific theater. After his service in the Army he moved back to Warren where he and his friend started a crop spraying business. In November 1950, Jerry and his business partner joined the United States Navy to serve in the Korean War, where he served on the USS Wisconsin battleship, BB64 for four years. Jerry was united in marriage to Eleanor Leone Wetzel on November 1, 1952 in Warren, IL. After the war he became a mechanic and also worked for the postal service. Throughout his life he lived in Winslow, Lena, IL, Pearl City IL, and then Warren. In 1961, he moved to Gratiot where he owned and operated Myers Standard Service for many years.

He is survived by his wife Eleanor, three sons: Tom (Jane) Myers of Cuba City, WI, Tim (Deb) Myers of Juda, WI, and Pat (Julie Winders) of Fennimore, WI; five grandchildren: Nikita (Brad) Poffinbarger of Dane, WI, Matthew (Angie) Myers of Stillwater, OK, Michael Myers of Cuba City, WI, Marcus (Laura) Myers of Waco, TX, and Jeff (Jennifer) Weeden of Barneveld, WI; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Marge Lindsey of Luther, MI. and Helen Irwin of Lena, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson: Conrad; three brothers: Charles, Robert, and Richard Myers; and three sisters: Judy Beaver, Eileen Kuhl, and Priscilla Beolk.

Gerald was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Gratiot. He also was a member of the American Legion VFW Post 9692B and the National Rural Letter Carrier’s Association. Gerald loved bowling, golfing, and watching Wisconsin sports. Gerald loved the time spent with his wife traveling the country in their RV.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, February 10, 2020, at 11:30 amat the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Gratiot. A visitation was held on Monday February 10, 2020 from 9:00 am until the time of service with a rosary being prayed at 8:30 AM at the church. The Erickson Funeral Home of Darlington assisted the family.
