Sergeant First Class Michael James McLendon, 46, Clarksville, died Tuesday, August 7, 2007, at his residence.
The funeral will be held at 12 p.m. Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at Neal-Tarpley Chapel with Chaplain Billy Smith officiating.
Burial will be in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-West with full military honors. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service Tuesday at the funeral home.
Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He was born in Palatka, Fla., Nov. 29, 1960 son of the late Roy Matson and Helen Johns Matson.
Michael was an E-7 serving in the U.S. Army. He served in the Gulf War, in Haiti, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He attended Salem United Methodist Church. He was with the Fifth Special Forces Group (Airborne) for 23 years.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Castleberry McLendon, a son Kevin Michael McLendon, of the Clarksville area; brothers, Daniel E. (Carla) McLendon and Ronald E. McLendon of Florida; a sister, Kathy (Harvey) Alvarado, Palm Coast, Fla.; nephews, Brian Alvarado, Chris (Julie) McLendon, Chris (Jessica) Warren, and Austin McLendon; nieces, Stacy Warren and Susan Cole; his loving father-in-law, James Castleberry; and his special grand-babies, Tayler Heflin, Hunter Heflin, Gaven Warren and Jackson Warren.
