Obituary for Kyung Bok Owens
Kyung Bok Owens, 84, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away at Menno Haven Rehabilitation Sunday morning, April 19, 2020. Born May 9, 1935 in North Korea. After the separation of Korea and the death of her father Ing No Cha, she and her mother, Jung Sa Lee, heroically defected to South Korea after a harrowing escape from North Korea.

Kyung Bok was affectionately known as “Cha,” dedicated her life to raising her four children along with her late husband Albert S. Owens (d. October 2, 2000), whose U.S. Army assignments moved them across the globe, including Korea where they met. She was talented, vivacious, and spunky. She loved playing Korean cards, crocheting, needlework, and spoke three languages.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert S. Owens, her granddaughter, Jasmine Cleope, and her grandson, Jason Owens.

She is survived by four children, Linda Porter, of Kill Devil Hills NC, Diane Watson husband Carl W. of Chambersburg PA, Kim Ricks of Chambersburg and Michael Owens and wife Lisa of Annapolis MD; 8 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grand son.

She will be laid to rest alongside her husband in Arlington National Cemetery. There will be a Celebration of her life at a future date.

In lure of flowers, the family ask a donation to be made to St. Jude’s Hospital for Children or Waynesboro Korean Church, 12767 Buchanan Trail East, Waynesboro PA. 17268. In loving memory of Kyung Bok Owens.
